Carmel Mission

The Carmel Mission in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, serves as an active parish community and historic site. Faith, history, art, and culture converge here, creating an extraordinary experience. Exploring the stunning grounds, delving into the past at the museums, and marveling at the impressive collection of art and religious artifacts are all part of a visit to this historic site.

Two centuries ago, the mission was in ruins, but through the generosity of many people, it was restored to its current state. Today, it stands as a symbol of hope, faith, and community. The Carmel Mission Legacy Society provides individuals with the opportunity to become part of the mission's enduring story and create their own legacy.

Self-guided tours, group visits, and school visits are just a few ways to experience the mission's beauty and history. Admissions can be purchased at the Visitor's Kiosk in front of the Mission Store, granting access to the Basilica, museums, and grounds. The mission store also features a wide array of gifts.

To plan a visit, it's best to check the mission's operating hours, which vary by day, and consider the activities scheduled for the day. Respect for the prayerful environment is appreciated, and guidelines are in place to ensure a positive experience, including respecting ongoing services, maintaining a prayerful atmosphere, and refraining from consuming food or drinks inside the buildings or on the grounds.
